The million dollar question is…
What do employers want?
This is the one question that has been haunting me over the past few days as I try to prepare this campaign for launch. What are employers looking for? what do they want to see in these students that will make them stand out, make them rise to the top of the potential employees list?
Additionally, what do I know? I’m just student myself, about the leap into the job search just like all the other great students around me. How can I know what employers want? I knew that in order to answer this question, I needed to do some research.
First, I posed the question to professionals on Twitter. I simply asked, ” what are you looking for?” This direct way allowed me to reach a variety of professionals in a hodgepodge of jobs in the marketing profession.
Next, I met with Pat Boera of Champlain College’s Career Services. She has been in the job search career for many years and had a great insight as to what employers are looking for in this day and age as well as different ways to make each student stand out.
Later today I’ll be meeting with Elaine Young, Assistant Dean of the Division of Business, Marketing Professor and the Social Media Sensei of all of us social media ninjas in training. I hope to be able to take everything I’ve gathered, the potential questions I’ve developed, and ideas I’ve braindumped and develop a clear and defined outline for what each student post will look like; something that will not only encompass the students’ resume, but also showcase their strengths, passions, and personality and show employers exactly why they should Hire This Grad.
